Our degree programmes equip graduates with the skills they need to excel in a very wide range of professional careers. the study of history involves the acquisition of knowledge about different periods and cultures; it involves the acquisition of advanced communication, organisational and leadership skills. even more fundamentally, though, studying history involves the cultivation of a special kind of critical sensibility: an adeptness at evaluating evidence and arguments made about that evidence. these are essential abilities across an array of professional sectors, and the career paths of our recent graduates affirm this. our graduates go on to successful careers in the museums and heritage sectors, and in education. others chose to pursue careers in journalism and publishing, the civil service and public sector, marketing and public relations, as well as retail and business management including positions in companies that include marks & spencer, santander, sainsbury’s and hsbc. many of our graduates decide to progress to postgraduate studies with us or other institutions, often entering into research and teaching positions upon completion. lancaster university is dedicated to ensuring that you gain a highly reputable degree. we are also dedicated to ensuring that you graduate with relevant life and work-based skills. we are unique in that every student is eligible to participate in the lancaster award, which offers you the opportunity to complete activities such as work experience, employability/career development, campus community and social development.
