Special Education

The special education interventionist program is offered by lipscomb’s college of education which is consistently ranked as one of the most effective educator preparation programs in the state of tennessee and the nation. if you have a passion to teach students with disabilities, you’re in the right place. this program will provide you with the experience and credentials to do just this. you will write individualized education programs (ieps), create behavior plans, and learn to collaborate with parents and other professionals. you will also receive general education training so that you will confidently be able to teach literacy and math skills to students in all sorts of settings. hands-on experience will be readily available on-campus and off. you’ll work with lipscomb’s ideal program and will continue on to student teach at a local school. your degree will comply with tennessee’s newest special education license requirements allowing you to teach in a variety of settings, both in the classroom and outside of it. you will be a sought after professional, and our 100 percent job placement rate continues to confirm the necessity of your skills.

This course is available with a placement year option where you will study for 1 additional year.the placement year provides you with a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons and develop valuable skills and contacts through working with a self-sourced organisation relevant to your degree subject. with a top-tier university education on your resume, you’ll be in high demand, whether you choose to launch your career or begin graduate school. most of our programs have a placement rate of at least 90 percent within six months of graduation.

Career paths special education teachers special education teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. they adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities. they also teach basic skills, such as literacy and communication techniques, to students with severe disabilities. rehabilitation counselors rehabilitation counselors help people with physical, mental, developmental, or emotional disabilities live independently. they work with clients to overcome or manage the personal, social, or psychological effects of disabilities on employment or independent living.

Work while you study

First-year students can only work on campus, and only under certain conditions. In the second year, students can work in practical, curricular or elective jobs. Students may be allowed to consider other types of employment, depending on their circumstances.
