Our department of politics and international relations and department of law and criminology have excellent reputations for high quality research and teaching, and for engagement in policy and practice, through active involvement with government bodies and voluntary statutory agencies. studying our ba politics and law degree, you will gain a solid foundation in politics and law at all levels and in all forms.

ELP programs are offered by universities or pathway institutions to assist students in achieving the language proficiency required for academic studies. You can get admitted to your course with a lower language requirement if you do an ELP program.

Upon completion of the course you will have acquired a knowledge and understanding of contemporary government and key political concepts as well as major political and policy challenges facing governments and citizens. you will have a rigorous grounding in the fundamental doctrines and principles underpinning the common law and a critical understanding of modern legal developments. graduates from our department work in a range of careers including public affairs, political organisations, journalism, international law and charities. roles include ministry of justice fast stream, political analyst at merchant banks, foreign office fast stream and graduate entry into a wide array of large companies. many of our graduates also go on to further study, entering postgraduate courses both at royal holloway and at other prestigious institutions around the world. employers include the house of commons, unilever, ministry of defence, amazon nestle, ipsos mori and mps’ offices.

Work while you study

You can also work on a UK student visa, from 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, 40 hours per week or full-time during vacations.
