Geography with a Language

At sussex, you’ll cover a truly global range of issues, taught by experts. from migration and development, to conflict, inequality and climate change adaptation, we’ll guide you through as you develop your own set of interests and expertise. adding a language to your study of geography opens up an even more diverse range of global career opportunities. you can also combine studying at sussex with time spent at a partner university, where you can develop your language skills in everyday life. choose one language from arabic, british sign language, french, german, italian, japanese, mandarin chinese and spanish.

ELP programs are offered by universities or pathway institutions to assist students in achieving the language proficiency required for academic studies. You can get admitted to your course with a lower language requirement if you do an ELP program.

During a geography with a language ba you develop research, communication, analytical, cultural awareness and resource-management skills. employers will also value your communication and language abilities. this means you can go on to careers in sectors including international development and environmental conservation, or to graduate jobs in: multinational organisations, charities and ngos civil and diplomatic services and government business, marketing and education. and while you're at sussex, you can attend specialist careers events and workshops to help you look for graduate schemes and jobs in the uk and abroad.

You can also work on a UK student visa, from 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, 40 hours per week or full-time during vacations.
