Mechanical Engineering with Robotics

On this course, you have the opportunity to develop specific expertise in robotics alongside skills in mechanical engineering; making you employable by various sectors, from robot design and development to autonomous cars, robotics, automation, mechatronics, automotive, aerospace, and renewable energies. the optional placement year also gives you the chance to get real work experience for a year in industry, whilst still being supported by the department at sussex. our world class research in robotics, dynamics and control, space systems, sensors, and flexible electronics informs our degrees to give you the best start in your career. you’ll study in our £12-million future technologies labs, which provides a new space for building robots, and programming embedded systems, as well as state-of-the-art computer design and modelling suites. in particular, you will have access to our flexible manufacturing system, industrial robotic manipulator, humanoid robots, fleet of drones, autonomous vehicles, and a real-time motion monitoring system.

ELP programs are offered by universities or pathway institutions to assist students in achieving the language proficiency required for academic studies. You can get admitted to your course with a lower language requirement if you do an ELP program.

We offer you the chance to take an industrial placement year as part of your course. the industrial placement provides you with the opportunity to spend a year working in industry, in an area relevant to your course, and to receive a salary. your time in industry develops your technical, team-working and transferable skills as you apply what you have learned in your studies to a business environment. a year in industry is a proven way to fast-track your career. many students who undertake an industrial placement perform better academically on their return to their course and are more likely to secure employment as a direct result of their year in industry.

Work while you study

You can also work on a UK student visa, from 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, 40 hours per week or full-time during vacations.
