Combine practical management knowledge with analytical economics skills and gain a competitive edge in your future management career. you’ll explore different perspectives on similar issues, such as the role of investment within the economy and its influence on the business cycle. you’ll learn the principles of economics and their application to a range of practical and topical issues, while gaining a solid grounding in diverse aspects of management and understanding the context within which modern business is conducted. to help you gain quantitative skills, you’ll also study mathematics and statistics, along with studying econometrics to extend your knowledge of statistical techniques and research methods. you choose from a range of economics and management options to consolidate your conceptual and practical knowledge. you also benefit from having an academic success adviser who can help you with academic study skills including critical thinking, presenting, academic writing and note-making. you can broaden your experience further with an option to study abroad or apply for a professional placement year.

Develop communication, analytical, management and numeracy skills with an economics and management studies degree. these skills mean you could go into a range of management positions in local and global organisations, government, banks, consultancies, marketing companies, insurance and accounting firms. you can also benefit from joining the economics society, which invites guest speakers and organises events, bringing together students from economics courses as well as those from other courses who share an interest in economics. there is also a business society and a trading society. you are based in the university of sussex business school where you benefit from extensive career support and business connections, including mentoring by employers, networking, guest lecturers and development of your workplace skills. the business school is home to the renowned uk trade policy observatory (uktpo) one of the most trusted voices in the analysis of the uk’s trading future after brexit. facilities include the bloomberg lab where you can access real-time data from the bloomberg professional services platform. outside the classroom you can join the startup sussex programme where you benefit from workshops from consultants in the sussex innovation centre, guidance on developing business ideas and the chance to win startup funding.

Work while you study

You can also work on a UK student visa, from 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, 40 hours per week or full-time during vacations.
